Avoiding Frozen Pipes
Is your water meter pit ready for the winter?
Locate your meter pit at the frontage of your property. Remove the lid and make sure your styrofoam pillow is flat and snug in your pit. (Don’t forget to reinstall your lid.) This will keep your meter from freezing during the winter.

Why Pipes Freezing is a problem
Water has a unique property in that it expands as it freezes. This expansion puts tremendous pressure on whatever is containing it, including meter or plastic pipes.
