PREVENTION OF FROZEN METERS

It’s that time of year again…….Every winter we have a few customers experience frozen water meters due to their meter not being protected from the freezing Iowa temperatures.  An insulation pillow has been installed in everyone’s meter pit.  This helps protect the meter against freezing during the cold months.  This pillow can be dislodged sideways by high ground water or by someone not inserting the pillow properly after inspecting for a possible leak.  Please help keep District costs down by preventing meter and regulator freeze-ups by insuring the pillow is lying flat and not sideways and that the lid is properly in place.  Once you inspect your pit, let any snow that falls cover it.  Snow acts as insulation, so don’t disturb it.  Should you have any concerns about your meter pit please let us know.
